Great post Sharon, as ever.

As you mention at the end I think using the status update box on LinkedIn is a good way to communicate a bit of news and share some useful content. I wouldn't update it as much as Twitter - about once, perhaps twice a week feels right to me: LinkedIn has a slower pace than Twitter or Facebook or Google+.

Linking it to your blog is a good one too. I've seen people share some enviable Slideshare presentations too. Lots you can do if you really want to make it work for you. It's a great tool for professionals in any type of business.

Since the search engines, especially Google now index and include Twitter profiles in their search engine results, using SEO techniques in your Twitter profile has become very important. Everything you have ever learned about SEO can now be applied to your social profiles.

Great stuff on maximising your LI profile.

May I add that it helps a lot to be active on this platform, too.

Not always easy when we all live such busy lives, but posting updates, answering questions and entering discussions is a good way to be noticed.

Thank James. Yes SEO is important - thinking about your offer from your client's point of view should focus your writing around the most important points. You're right, making sure you hit the keywords always helps, but make it readable, interesting and memorable too!

Great article.

I think maybe another one for the list could be to write keeping half an eye on SEO too so slipping some keywords in. I guess a well written piece would probably do this anyway. :o)

Love the article Sharon. Have you read 'Eats, Shoots and Leaves' by Lynne Truss? It's a fantastic book on grammatical correctness. I particularly like the fact it gives you stickers to post on any offending signs. Sticklers unite! Red pens at the ready.

The greengrocer's apostrophe - as in Carrot's, Cabbage's and Potato's. Don't get me started on en-dashes vs. hyphens...

Thanks Charles, that's another good one to remember.
Writing about the importance of apostrophes feels a bit like fiddling while Rome burns at the moment. Our news here is full of riots, looting and violence. Still, maybe that's all the more reason to stand up for being articulate and making yourself understood.......
